Looking to Volunteer as a Coach?
All coaches are volunteers, many start out with their own children at a young age and continue to coach up through the years even into competitive levels of Fastball.
The following is a general list of what is involved with each role:
Head Coach
- Completes a Coaching Application Form
- Submits a Criminal Record Check prior to the season
- Attends practices and games (arrives early and sets up equipment)
- Plans practices and drills
- Determines team line-ups for games
- Develops a thorough understanding of the rules
- Manages team equipment
- Attends club coaches meetings
- Sends team communications
- Liaises with Team Coordinator and Assistant Coaches
- Completes appropriate level NCCP coaching certification (Online and Weekend Course)
Assistant Coach
- Completes Coaching Application Form
- Submits a Criminal Record Check prior to season start
- Attends practices and games (arrives early and sets up equipment)
- Assists with practices, drills
- Runs warm-ups
- Provides base coaching during games
- Provides coach pitch or runs the pitching machine during games
- Has a thorough understanding of the rules
- Helps manage team equipment
- Completes appropriate NCCP coaching certification (Online)
Team Coordinator
- Coordinates Parent Volunteers for "Team Volunteer Duties" such as Scorekeeping, Field Prep for home games etc
- Assists Head Coach with administrative duties such as team communication as needed
- Submits a Criminal Record Check prior to season start if helping on the field or in the dugout with player present
On-Field Helpers
- Helps out during practices as directed by the Head Coach
- Submits a Criminal Record Check prior to season start
Coach Application Form
Coaches are needed at all levels from U7 and up. All Coaches must apply each year. The application can be completed online on our Registration page. This application is for Coaches only.
NCCP Coach Training
Proper NCCP Coach Training is an important part of a positive player experience and contributes to the overall success of the club. All Coaches should complete the online "Foundations of Coaching Softball" course below and Head Coaches should complete a weekend course that is applicable to their division, here is a link to the pathway: softball.bc.ca/content/nccp-pathway-explained If you are interested in taking a weekend course please contact our Coach Coordinator on the Contact Us page to book so you can be reimbursed for the cost.
NCCP Foundations of Coaching Softball: How to Access
- Step 1: Login or create an account in The Locker - https://thelocker.coach.ca/account/login?mode=login
- Step 2: click on e-learning.
- Step 3: click on the arrow in the dropdown box on the upper left corner and choose Softball.
Step 4: click on Foundations of Softball part 1 or 2.
Step 5: pay and begin
Criminal Record Checks
Anyone Coaching or Assisting with a team for practice or any on-field play is required to have a completed Criminal Record Check (CRC) first.
Online CRC Instructions:
The online system is easy and takes very little time and effort, please apply as soon as possible as it takes between 3-4 weeks to process. Since you are volunteering there is no fee. MAKE A NOTE OF THE CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK CONFIRMATION CODE GIVEN TO YOU AT THE END OF YOUR ONLINE REQUEST. YOU WILL NEED TO PROVIDE THIS CODE AS PROOF THAT YOU HAVE APPLIED FOR YOUR CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK.

- Enter access code: 3EHLDGMQAT
- Follow the prompts to complete all of the necessary information.
- Your completed CRC will be sent to the Central Saanich Extreme President directly.
In-person CRC Instructions:
To complete your Criminal Record Check in person or if you have received notification that you must provide fingerprints, please email our President for the club CRC Request Letter.
Once you have the letter and filled in your name, please take it to your local Police Department to confirm you will be volunteering on behalf of the Central Saanich Extreme Fastball Club. You are required to complete the necessary CRC paperwork at the police station (bring I.D.), following which you will be contacted after approximately 2 weeks to pick up your completed CRC. Upon receipt, please return it to the Central Saanich Extreme President as soon as possible.
